7 Things That Make Austin Awesome

November 2nd is less than a month away, and we’re all getting excited to head to Austin and get our loyalty on in the Capital of Cool. Though we’ll only be there for 36 hours, we’re ready to grab the bull by the horns and experience all we can in this great city! A few things we’re especially excited about…

#7: Bats

Bats emerge from the Congress Ave. bridge in Austin, TX. Promotional photo for the Bat Fest, Sept. 2-3, 2006, in Austin. Held on the Congress Avenue Bridge, under which 1.5 to 2 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge at sunset to hunt insects, the event celebrates Austin's bats and arts with educational displays, two stages of music, arts and crafts, kids' activities and bat watching. Seriously, bats. Some people are grossed out by the little creatures, but I think bats are adorable and awesome (I mean, have you seen Jackie Sparrow?!) Underneath the Congress Avenue Bridge lives the largest urban bat colony in North America, and when they emerge in the evenings during the March through November “bat season,” the sky looks like a blanket of fluttering wings. Sounds like a perfect date-night to me.

#6: Breakfast Tacos

Sorry to talk about food right after flying rodents, but breakfast tacos combine my two favorite things in life: breakfast and Mexican food. And if you’re visiting Austin and don’t get a breakfast taco, the locals will tell you you’ve failed in life. Whether I’m hitting a famous chain like Torchy’s or Tacodeli, or hunting down an authentic gem like Veracruz All Natural, you better believe breakfast tacos are in my future (especially since they’re on the Call to Loyalty breakfast menu!)

#5: Weather

According to Weather.com, the average Austin forecast for the beginning of November is 77° and sunny. Compare that to the typical weather here in Chicago (or anywhere in the Midwest for that matter) during that same time: 56° and cloudy. It’s a no-brainer. I already have the sunscreen packed.

#4: The Greenbelt

If you’re from Austin, odds are you’re familiar with this rustic oasis in the midst of a thriving city. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is over 12 miles of hiking trails, climbing spots, and serene streams, and our company is lucky enough to have an office located right next to it. What’s better than taking a break from a hectic workday and surrounding yourself with nature… I wonder if our Wi-Fi reaches down there?

#3: Shinyribs

Are your friends music snobs like mine? Well get ready to blow their minds when you tell them all about a private show put on by Austin’s own Shinyribs. It doesn’t get more Austin-awesome than this group’s country-soul, swamp-funk and tickle! Listen for yourself!

#2: Paul Qui & the East Side King food truck

Paul Qui East Side King

As much as I’d like to hit every food truck I see, there’s only one I have eyes for on this trip, and he’s a winner – A “Top Chef” winner, to be exact. Paul Qui and his famous truck are taking a break from the Austin streets to serve up his wildly creative and delicious Asian-fusion food at our Welcome Party. I plan on trying all of it. And then possibly attempting a picture with him for extra bragging rights (which you’ll be able to see on our new Instagram account).

#1: Matt Dixon

What does every company need? Customers! The kind that love you and never want to leave you. Matt Dixon, our event’s keynote speaker, knows what it takes to make customers happy. More importantly, he’s an expert in what it takes to keep them loyal. He literally wrote the book on it.  His words of wisdom will help any business thrive in our customer-centric world.

An amazing agenda in an amazing city … it’s no wonder Call to Loyalty is filling up fast. If you haven’t done so yet, grab your spot now! Then get ready to pull on your cowboy boots and head down to Austin to learn about customer lovin’ and a whole lot more!
